Landfill Harmonic
This will bring tears to your eyes. A community that lives on a landfill in Panama builds recycled instruments and teaches its children to play them. (3:43 minutes) (Thanks to Sarah Pinneo for making me aware of this).

TED Talk: Jarrett J. Krosoczka: How a Boy Became an Artist
Another tear-jerker. The moving story of how children's illustrator Jarrett Krosoczka (known for his Lunch Lady graphic novels) overcame a difficult childhood to persevere and succeed as an illustrator. (18:48 min).
The Reward: from The Animation Workshop
A masterpiece of wordless storytelling from The Animation Workshop in Denmark. The meaning of life and friendship in less than 10 minutes. (9:01 min) (Thanks to my 12x12 friend, Jae Johans, for sharing this).

THE video any artist, writer, or creator at the beginning of their careers must watch. It will inspire you not to quit in disgust but persevere until you are satisfied with your work. (2 min.)

Sylvia, I've seen the Ira Glass video before. But I took an early lunch to watch Jarrett J. Krosoczka's video. Totally worth it. And I certainly hope Sarah Pinneo has made a book out of her video by now! If she hasn't she should. Inspiration all around us.
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy. I think Sarah just blogged about that, and I heard there's a documentary coming out on that community. I loved Jarrett's video. Thanks for stopping by!

ReplyDeleteI've seen three before & really like them. Hadn't previously seen the wordless one. Very cool. I'd add to these Hank Green's vlog entry titled "We're All Scared."
Thanks!
Haven't heard of that but will look for it. Thanks.
DeleteThese are great. I'd seen one of them before but not the other 3. Thanks for sharing! I especially liked the Ira Glass one and the Krosoczka one.
