Alex Masket's Art

This is a piece of work from Alex Masket, a 23-year old artist who happens to be severely autistic.  He is nonverbal, yet has found a way to communicate, or at least order his world through art.  Looking at his work raises questions for me.  Where does the impulse to create and to create order out of chaos come from?  Is art a way to mediate reality?  Is this Alex's reality?  Do we instinctively recognize and enjoy certain patterns and color combinations?  A very interesting article about his work is found here:
